No, you do not need a GP referral to book an appointment with us. We are a private clinic and you can self-refer. If you do have a referral letter, please bring it with you to your appointment.
Mole removal is performed under local anaesthetic, so the procedure itself is painless. You will feel a small sting when the anaesthetic is injected. Once it wears off, the area may feel slightly tender for a day or two, which can be managed with standard over-the-counter painkillers.
A standard mole check or full body screening typically takes between 15 to 30 minutes. This allows your consultant enough time to thoroughly examine your skin, discuss any concerns, and explain their findings.
Dermoscopy is a non-invasive technique using a handheld instrument called a dermatoscope. It provides high-quality magnification and lighting, allowing the consultant to see structures below the skin surface that are not visible to the naked eye. This significantly improves the accuracy of skin cancer diagnosis.
Mole removal pricing depends on the technique. Shave removal of the first mole is £275, with each additional mole removed in the same session at £175. Surgical excision is £325 on the body and £395 on the face. A consultation fee of £100 (£150 for ages 16–17) applies if you book an assessment first. Histology, when needed, is charged separately by the lab (£85–£150). See our Pricing page for the full breakdown.
Yes, it is standard medical practice and highly recommended that all removed moles are sent for histological examination (biopsy) at a specialist laboratory. This provides a definitive diagnosis and ensures nothing suspicious is missed. There is a separate laboratory fee for this analysis.
In most cases, yes. Following a mole check, you can return to work immediately. After a mole removal, most patients return to work the same day, unless their work involves heavy physical exertion or the removal was in an area prone to stretching.
If the consultant identifies a suspicious mole, they will discuss the findings with you clearly and calmly. They will usually recommend immediate removal (excision biopsy) so the tissue can be analysed. We arrange this as quickly as possible, often on the same day.
You should look for the ABCDE signs: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Colour variation, Diameter over 6mm, and Evolution (any change in size, shape, colour, or elevation). If you notice any of these, or if a mole is bleeding, itching, or newly appearing, you should have it checked by a specialist.
No, we are a self-pay clinic only. We don't process private medical insurance claims, so every patient pays the same published fee. We accept card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfer on the day. If your insurer reimburses you directly for self-funded treatment, we'll provide an itemised receipt for you to claim back.
It depends on the mole. Raised or dome-shaped moles are usually treated with shave excision (no stitches, fast healing). Flat, deeper or atypical moles need full surgical excision with stitches and routine histology. Very small superficial benign lesions may be suitable for electrocautery or, more selectively, cryotherapy. Your consultant will recommend the best option at consultation. We do not use laser for moles, it can't reach the deeper part of the lesion and rules out histology.
A light scab typically forms within 24–48 hours. The scab lifts naturally over weeks 2–3, leaving pink new skin. Redness gradually settles between weeks 4–6, and the scar continues to soften and lighten over the following 3–6 months. Final maturation takes 6–12 months. Daily SPF 30+ on the area through the first year is essential to prevent pigmentation changes.
Yes, for clearly benign cosmetic removals, we can usually consult and treat in a single visit. For suspect or atypical lesions we always assess and consent first; histology is sent to an accredited lab and results return within 10 working days.
Please do not wear make-up, nail polish, or fake tan if you are having a full body check, as this can obscure the skin. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to remove. If you have any previous medical reports regarding your skin, please bring them with you.
We require 48 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice may be subject to a cancellation fee, as this time has been reserved exclusively for you.
