What is a mole check?

Annual peace of mind, consultant-led.

A full-body mole check is the appointment to book if you have a lot of moles, a personal or family history of skin cancer, or you've simply never had a proper specialist look. At our London clinics — Harley Street and our Queen Street rooms in the City — a consultant systematically reviews the skin from scalp to soles, examines anything atypical with a polarised dermatoscope, photographs lesions worth tracking, and writes up the findings the same day.

We see London patients across the full risk spectrum: pale-skinned patients with childhood sun history, patients with first-degree melanoma relatives, immunosuppressed patients on long-term medication, and patients who simply want a baseline. Whatever the reason, the protocol is the same: 30 minutes, consultant-led, dermatoscopy on every lesion that looks unusual, and a clear written plan delivered the same day.

If anything is found that needs removing, suspect-mole excision can usually be booked at the same London clinic within five working days. If everything looks reassuring we'll suggest when (or whether) to come back. There is no upsell — many of our mole-check patients leave with nothing more than a short report telling them the skin is fine.

What's actually involved

A short read on the £250 mole check.

Four short sections covering exactly what's included, what we look for, what you receive afterwards, and how often a mole check is worth repeating.

Your 30 minutes, broken down

We allocate a full 30 minutes per appointment because rushed examinations miss things. The first few minutes are conversation, what you've noticed, your skin history, sun exposure, family history of melanoma or other skin cancers. This shapes how attentively we look at different areas and which moles you point out as concerning.

Next is a structured examination. Each lesion you've flagged is examined visually, then with a high-magnification polarised dermatoscope. The surrounding skin gets a careful visual scan, most patients have at least one mole they hadn't noticed that warrants a closer look. We talk you through what we see in plain language as we go.

The appointment closes with a discussion: findings, any recommendations (monitor, remove, follow up), and answers to whatever questions you have. A written report follows within 24 hours.

Should I book one?

Yes, particularly if any of these apply.

  • 01

    Family history

A parent, sibling or child with melanoma, your baseline risk is meaningfully elevated.

  • 02

    Fair skin & sun exposure

Skin types I and II, freckling, history of childhood sunburn, or significant sun-exposed work or holidays.

  • 03

    More than 30 moles

A high mole count itself is a risk factor for melanoma, more moles, more chance for one to behave unusually.

  • 04

    Personal history

If you've had skin cancer before, annual checks (or more frequent) are strongly advised.

  • 05

    A changing mole

Any mole that has changed in colour, shape, size or sensation over weeks or months.

  • 06

    Just want peace of mind

You don't need a specific concern. Most patients book because they'd rather know than wonder.

What's included

A four-part check, structured and thorough.

  1. 01

    Consultation

Brief discussion of your skin history, family history, sun exposure, and any specific moles you've noticed changing.

  2. 02

    Examination

Thorough examination of all moles you're concerned about, plus a visual scan of the surrounding skin to flag anything else worth a closer look.

  3. 03

    Dermatoscopy

Each mole of concern is examined with a high-magnification dermatoscope, allowing us to see the underlying pigment patterns and assess against the ABCDE framework.

  4. 04

    Report & advice

Personalised written report with findings, photos where appropriate, and clear advice on monitoring or next steps. Sent to you within 24 hours; to your GP with your consent.

"Excellent service, and care. I had a wart removal on my eyelid, procedure was quick and pain free (even that I was a little bit scared). Dr Mohsan, Kay (assistant), Aoife (receptionist) were very professional and reassuring. I highly recommend this clinic."

"Thank you Dr Reza and Kay for being amazing. I've always wanted my mole removed and thought long and hard about it and put the time in to research where to go as it is a big deal when it's on your face. I made the right decision! Incredibly professional, did a wonderful job and really helpful with the aftercare. This is a 5 star review as it was a 5 star job. If you're thinking about braving it, get it done. So happy with the results!"

"I thought I would wait a few weeks before doing a review, so I could give a proper account. I had a Seborrheic Keratoses growth on the side of my face that had been bothering me for 2-3 years. I had tried all the usual creams to no effect. I decided to take the plunge and get it removed and opted for the clinic based on previous reviews. The whole process was very professional from start to finish, and the process, and what I could expect, were clearly described to me. Four weeks later I'm wondering why I didn't do it sooner, it's also been a tremendous confidence booster. The process was quick and painless, and after a few weeks of healing it has all but disappeared. I'm very happy with the results. I will definitely go back for a few other bits and bobs that need sorting."

"Really fantastic experience. It can be nerve-wracking coming along for something like this (lesion removal) but Dr Georgios was incredibly sensitive, kind and thorough in explaining my options and I felt very reassured and relaxed throughout. I didn't feel a thing during the procedure and it was all so easy and efficient! The nursing and admin staff were fantastic and friendly too. Highly recommended and I'm so glad I made that booking!"

"Super efficient and reliable. Before even going to my appointment my emails and queries were replied to very quickly. I went to have a mole removed and the environment was so friendly; Angelica the receptionist was so welcoming and both the assistant Kay and Dr Sarah made me feel very comfortable. The procedure was quick and all of my questions answered. I know I can come back should anything go wrong. Would definitely recommend!"
