When to act
If a mole has changed shape, colour, size or started to bleed or itch, you want it looked at quickly and by someone qualified to make the call. Our London suspect-mole pathway is built for that: a same-week consultant appointment at Harley Street or our City clinic, dermatoscopic assessment, full-thickness excision the same day where appropriate, and histology routed to a UKAS-accredited UK pathology laboratory. Written reports are typically with you inside seven days.
Both London clinics see the same range of cases and the same consultants, so where you're seen depends on where you're starting from. Marylebone, Fitzrovia, Mayfair and the West End sit closest to Harley Street. The City clinic — two minutes from Mansion House on Queen Street — suits patients in EC1–EC4, Canary Wharf, Bermondsey, Bank and anyone arriving from Kent or Essex by rail. The same fee, the same equipment, and the same lab apply at both.
Suspect-mole care is not cosmetic, and we don't approach it cosmetically. The lesion comes off whole, with a clinically appropriate margin, so the pathologist has a complete sample to read. If margins come back narrow we will discuss further excision; if histology returns benign we'll plan any cosmetic refinement separately.

The diagnostic pathway
Suspect-mole work is a diagnostic discipline first and a surgical one second. Each step below exists to give the histopathologist the cleanest possible answer, and to give you certainty about what you have.
Polarised, high-magnification examination of the lesion. Reveals pigment networks, vascular patterns and asymmetry invisible to the naked eye, scored against the ABCDE framework.
When excision is indicated we take the lesion plus a clean margin in one full-thickness ellipse. This gives the lab a complete sample, punch and shave biopsies are deliberately avoided for suspect moles.
Tissue is sent to a UKAS-accredited pathology lab. A consultant histopathologist reports on cell type, depth (Breslow), margins and any atypia. Typical turnaround: 7–10 working days.
If the result raises any clinical concern, your case is brought to a multidisciplinary discussion with dermatology and plastic-surgery colleagues so the next step is agreed before you're called.
Understanding the pathway
If you've been told a mole needs to come off, or you suspect it does, here's what actually happens, written for patients, not for clinicians.
The single most important variable in melanoma outcome is depth at the time of excision. Caught early, while still confined to the upper skin layer, melanoma has a five-year survival above 99%. Caught later, once it has invaded deeper or spread to lymph nodes, that figure drops sharply. The arithmetic of waiting is harsher than most people realise.
Most moles are harmless and most worrying-looking moles turn out to be benign. But the cost of an unnecessary check is small (one consultation), while the cost of waiting too long with a real melanoma is enormous. We exist to make the unnecessary check easy and the necessary one fast, same week, consultant-led, same-day excision where indicated.
If a mole is changing, growing, darkening, asymmetrical, bleeding, itching, or simply different from your other moles, book. Don't wait to see if it settles. The five-day route to certainty is short.
ABCDE, the warning signs
If a mole shows any of the following, even mildly, book a Skin Cancer Check. The ABCDE framework is what your consultant will use during dermatoscopy.
01
If you imagine folding the mole in half, the two sides don't match. Benign moles are usually symmetrical.
02
Edges that are blurred, ragged, notched or irregular rather than smooth and well-defined.
03
More than one shade, patches of brown, black, red, blue, white or grey within the same mole.
04
Larger than 6mm (the size of a pencil eraser), though early melanomas can be smaller.
05
Any change over weeks or months: growing, raising, changing colour, itching, bleeding or crusting.
06
Previous skin cancer, a first-degree relative with melanoma, fair skin or significant sun exposure all raise your baseline risk.
What to expect
A 30-minute consultant assessment using dermatoscopy. We examine the mole and any others of concern, then talk you through what we see using the ABCDE framework.
If excision is indicated, your consultant performs a full-thickness elliptical excision under local anaesthetic in the same visit, there's no waiting list.
The removed tissue is sent to an accredited histopathology lab for microscopic analysis. Results are typically returned within 7–10 working days.
We call you with the histology result and post a written report to you and (with your consent) your GP. We'll discuss any further care needed in plain language.
Transparent pricing
Most patients pay for the Skin Cancer Check plus an excision. A £50 deposit secures your appointment and is deducted from your final bill.
Excision prices include the procedure, dressings, sutures and follow-up. A separate laboratory fee applies for histological analysis, typically £85–£150 depending on the lab and complexity.
Who you'll see
Suspect-mole assessments and excisions are performed by GMC-registered consultants only. No nurse practitioners, no aesthetic-only practitioners, no juniors.

"Excellent service, and care. I had a wart removal on my eyelid, procedure was quick and pain free (even that I was a little bit scared). Dr Mohsan, Kay (assistant), Aoife (receptionist) were very professional and reassuring. I highly recommend this clinic."

"Thank you Dr Reza and Kay for being amazing. I've always wanted my mole removed and thought long and hard about it and put the time in to research where to go as it is a big deal when it's on your face. I made the right decision! Incredibly professional, did a wonderful job and really helpful with the aftercare. This is a 5 star review as it was a 5 star job. If you're thinking about braving it, get it done. So happy with the results!"

"I thought I would wait a few weeks before doing a review, so I could give a proper account. I had a Seborrheic Keratoses growth on the side of my face that had been bothering me for 2-3 years. I had tried all the usual creams to no effect. I decided to take the plunge and get it removed and opted for the clinic based on previous reviews. The whole process was very professional from start to finish, and the process, and what I could expect, were clearly described to me. Four weeks later I'm wondering why I didn't do it sooner, it's also been a tremendous confidence booster. The process was quick and painless, and after a few weeks of healing it has all but disappeared. I'm very happy with the results. I will definitely go back for a few other bits and bobs that need sorting."

"Really fantastic experience. It can be nerve-wracking coming along for something like this (lesion removal) but Dr Georgios was incredibly sensitive, kind and thorough in explaining my options and I felt very reassured and relaxed throughout. I didn't feel a thing during the procedure and it was all so easy and efficient! The nursing and admin staff were fantastic and friendly too. Highly recommended and I'm so glad I made that booking!"

"Super efficient and reliable. Before even going to my appointment my emails and queries were replied to very quickly. I went to have a mole removed and the environment was so friendly; Angelica the receptionist was so welcoming and both the assistant Kay and Dr Sarah made me feel very comfortable. The procedure was quick and all of my questions answered. I know I can come back should anything go wrong. Would definitely recommend!"
